Replacement nibs for acrylic paints

Special high flow nibs let acrylic paint flow easily, quickly and smoothly in the paint pen marker you made yourself.

Some of my paint pen customers have a problem getting paint to flow easily in their paint pens. It takes a long time for the nib to get wet with paint the first time the marker is used.

Acrylic paint is hard to use in a marker or paint pen because it is, for want of a fancier word, "thick”. Paint pens work very well with “thin” liquids like inks, alcohol-based paints, stains, etc. These liquids can be used straight out of the bottle in a paint pen or marker.

Acrylic paint has very large molecules that move slowly through the fibers of a typical paint pen nib. It is hard to get the paint to the tip of the nib and onto the painted surface.

For acrylic paint to flow properly in a paint pen or marker it must be diluted or “thinned”. Usually, the thinning ratio is 35% water, 65% paint.

Although thinning with water can work, it is not an ideal solution. Thinning changes the appearance of the paint and its ability to adhere to a surface. The less thinning the better, but the issue of flow through the nibs is still there.

Some of my customers get better results using their own paint in a marker when they thin with air brush medium. It is sold to make acrylics work with an airbrush. It is also effective in thinning the paint for marker use. However, using this method with acrylic paint still requires a good deal of thinning.

So, what have we learned so far? 1. Thinning is a must for the paint to flow to through the tip of a marker. 2. The less thinning the better to keep the true color of the paint.

learn how to paint rocks shoes and so much more with acylic paint I found a super informative article about painting jars and rocks and so much more with acrylic paint pens from Zieler artist supply company in the UK.

The renowned Japanese pen company Teibow solved this problem by making a nib (tip) for “thick” paints and inks.  The structure of this nib shows a looser packing of the fibers to allow a better flow of fluid to the tip. The nibs I import from Japan are custom made to work just as the Teibow nibs do.

Now there is a way to use acrylic paint in make your own paint pens and markers that reduces how much thinner is needed. Replacement nib for easilly use acrylic paint in a marker These new replacement nibs let acrylic paint be used with much less thinning.

These paint pen tips work well for many of my customers using acrylics.  Here are some special offers so you can stock up on these nibs. Remember, you can use your paint pen over and over again with just a change of the nib as it wears.  No need to buy an entire new paint pen!
